Plans approved for Horrocks Mill

On 30th November, our plans for the redevelopment of the Horrocks Mill site were approved by Preston City Council.

Following the approval, Onward will now seek to acquire the former Horrocks Mill site from its current owners, The Brookhouse Group. This will enable Onward to move forward with the redevelopment of this disused brownfield site located between Queen Street and Church Street, transforming it into a thriving a new community with modern, affordable homes a stone’s throw away from the city centre.

The homes will be designed to meet the needs of local people and increase the number of affordable homes in the city via mix of apartments and homes suitable for families, with a range of homes including affordable rent, rent to buy as well as shared ownership properties for those that are struggling to get onto the property ladder.

As well as providing new homes, additional green open spaces will be created with play areas and trim trails that existing and future residents can enjoy. There will also be planting throughout the site to create an attractive and relaxing environment for the new homes, as well as new and improved walking and cycling routes into the city centre.

Sandy Livingstone, Executive Director for Property at Onward, said:

“Onward has a longstanding commitment to Preston, one of the great Northern cities. The approval of our plans for Horrocks Mill is another important step in our journey to delivering our commitment to provide more affordable homes in the area. We can now move forward with confidence to unlock this abandoned brownfield site and transform it into a place that local people can call home.

“Our vision supports the wider aspirations of the Council to deliver quality, affordable homes within walking distance of the city centre. We have worked closely with our local partners to ensure that we deliver a scheme that meets the needs of local people and look forward to bringing this vision to life.”
